Safety Coordinator

POSITION SUMMARY: Supports Singing River Electric and Singing River Connect with compliance efforts in accordance with local, state, and federal legal requirements at all offices. Ensures safe work practice and procedures are followed to ensure a safe working environment.

RESPONSIBILITIES:

Enforce safety rules and policies for all aspects of the Cooperative and its subsidiary, SR Connect.

Assist in ensuring the Cooperative complies with federal and state agencies such as Occupational Safety & Health Administration (OSHA), Federal Motor Carrier Safety Administration, Department of Transportation (DOT), and Department of Environmental Quality (DEQ), National Electric Safety Code (NESC) and record retention guidelines.

Responsible for planning weekly crew visits at all offices to ensure adequate safety protocols are being followed by all outside crews, responsible for safety representation during inclement weather.

Assists as directed in scheduling all required compliance-based meetings.

Maintains Cooperative's Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) program.

Maintain required certifications in order to remain knowledgeable and eligible to train employees on safety related issues such as First Aid and CPR training, safety committee meetings, and safety orientations.

Knowledgeable of (FMCSA's) drug and alcohol compliance program and driver files, this includes testing for non-DOT fleet drivers.

Maintains fiber hut compliance in order to meet all applicable standards. Coordinates training and compliance with Fiber subsidiary leaders.

Maintains a working knowledge of Hazwoper program to assist with oil spill clean-up. Assist with Spill Prevention and Counter Control Plan (SPCC) compliance, as directed.

Maintain manual for Safety Accreditation Program.

Work with ROW & Fleet Coordinator to ensure fleet compliance with Federal Motor Carrier through education, training, and performed truck inspections.

Assists with the Material Safety Data Sheets and Safety Data Sheets (MSDS/SDS) Right to Know Program.

Assist with safety presentations to organizations, schools and at events outside the Cooperative, as directed.

Assist with the record keeping of all federal and state agencies such as OSHA, DOT and DEQ.

Responsible for maintaining records for proven inspections and results.

Maintains knowledge required to properly communicate to management personnel new or changing laws, regulations, or technical developments, which could affect the Cooperative and contracted utilities.

Responsible for maintaining files for accidents and safety violations, serves as backup for accident investigation as directed.

Assists as directed in scheduling timely testing of Apprenticeship Program.

Assist as directed with the Dielectric Testing on trucks, grounds, insulated equipment such as extendo, hot sticks, etc.

Performs other related duties as required and assigned.

POSITION REQUIREMENTS:

Must display an exceptional working knowledge of safety related practice and procedure for all departments at Singing River Electric

Proven work experience, a degree in a related field, or journeyman lineman experience, required.

Must be certified in, or willing to obtain, certification in CPR, first aid, and AED.

Must have or be able to attain an OSHA 30 Hour Certification and possess a valid Mississippi driver's license.

Must be able to effectively communicate and train employees.

Must be able to work independently and possess the ability to formulate detailed programs, policies, etc. from a conceptual basis.

Must be able to complete UST Training.

Must have knowledge and understanding of Singing River Electric's Safety Manual, company policies, operational procedures, and Local and State regulations as they relate to this position.

Must be able to communicate effectively both orally and written, with the capability to design and effectively teach educational materials using various media devices.

Must be willing to work overtime, holidays, weekends when needed, or in emergency situations.

Must have or be able to attain the Hazardous Waste Operations and Emergency Response Must have or be willing to obtain Standard (HAZWOPER) Certification.

PHYSICAL CHARACTERISTICS:

This position is mobile with some sedentary work with occasional bending, stooping, squatting, kneeling, and climbing. Must be able to lift, carry, push and pull up to 80 lbs. Job requires repetitive motion with feet, hands and fingers such as computer operations. Must be able to stand and reach over shoulders, head and outward at various times. Must be able to walk on uneven and/or slippery surfaces from time to time. Must be able to write and communicate with individuals whether in person or over the telephone. Must be able to hear well enough to understand oral instructions. Must be able to see well enough to work with small print, analyze data and parts. Must be able to drive a vehicle.
