Position Summary: Provides around-the-clock customer service for the members of Singing River Electric Cooperative. Dispatches and monitors applicable business systems of both Singing River Electric and Singing River Connect. Ensures all operational systems and ancillary systems are operating in a safe, reliable, and economic manner.

Position Requirements:

  • Two years' experience in a closely related field, an associate degree in a relative field, or a combination of both experience and education, required.
  • Must be able to work twelve-hour shifts, eight-hour shifts, weekends, holidays, relief work and overtime, as required.
  • Must display the ability to locate, interpret, summarize, compare, analyze, and make decisions based on information found in workplace graphics such as, tables, graphs, charts, digital dashboards, flow charts, timelines, forms, maps, and schematics.
  • Must display the ability to effectively speak and communicate with field employees and the public, while obtaining and relaying information in an effective and courteous manner.
  • Must maintain an awareness for safety protocols, policies and procedures.
  • Must display the readiness to add to present skillset in the areas of electrical distribution, equipment, regional geography, and operating procedures.
  • Within a year of hire, operators must complete Test One of the cooperative's SCADA testing program, and obtain a System Operator Training Certificate through a cooperative approved and sponsored technical facility.

Responsibilities:

  • Verifies that electrical distribution equipment such as transformers, voltage regulators and breakers, are operating by monitoring SCADA information.
  • Operates remote devices, monitors distribution system through the use of SCADA system. Duties include but are not limited to:

    1. Issuing "One Shot" remote control commands upon receiving authorization from qualified field personnel.
    2. Issuing "Hot Line Tag" remote control commands upon receiving authorization from qualified field personnel.
    3. Issuing feeder breaker "Trip" or "Close" remote control commands upon receiving authorization from qualified field personnel.
    4. Issuing remote control commands during capacity emergencies as determined and directed by Engineer on duty.
    5. Monitoring system voltages and loading to be within specified limits, recording loading data in periodic intervals when necessary, and initiating appropriate response for deviations.
  • Activates power distribution equipment by initiating or manipulating switching controls and implements the cooperative's Hotline Tag Procedures and Lockout/Tagout Procedures as requested by qualified personnel.

  • Reviews switching orders generated by Engineering and Operations personnel and monitors progress of activity during switching. Informs switching coordinator of impacts to distribution system during and after completion of activity.

  • Conducts the switching of electrical load by navigating switching procedures such as Hotline Tag Procedures and SCADA switching steps during scheduled and trouble activities such as scheduled outages, voltage system upgrades and accident/weather-related outages. Controls electrical power distribution equipment and machinery by remotely controlling devices being tested in the field. This will be done under the direction of an engineer or qualified employee.

  • Monitors SCADA operations log and notifies correct work groups of operational alarms that may be present.

  • Maintains clear, concise, and accurate records to provide an account of all operational actions taken.

  • Updates the switching board using information obtained from Engineering Department.

  • Operates radio in compliance with Cooperative's procedures while directing electrical distribution personnel such as, servicemen and linemen, in emergency situations by following emergency operating protocol.
