Financial Accountant

POSITION SUMMARY: Preparation of financial statements to ensure the integrity and accuracy of accounting information as well as various tax reporting and account reconciliations.

POSITION REQUIREMENTS:

  • Must have a Bachelor's Degree in Accounting or Business, CPA preferred.
  • Must have three to four years' prior experience.
  • Must have a valid driver's license.
  • A High School diploma or its equivalence.
  • Must have the ability to plan and organize work and handle confidential information.
  • Must have knowledge of operational procedures of the various departments within the Cooperative.
  • Must have a knowledge of Singing River's overall basic plant accounting procedures.
  • Must have a knowledge of the Cooperative's Aid to Construction procedures.
  • Must have a knowledge of records and file management systems including document indexing, retrieval, transfer, and storage.
  • Must have a knowledge of personal computer's operating procedures, spreadsheets, and various types of software including Word and Excel.
  • Must be willing to work overtime, holidays, and weekends when needed or in emergency situations.
  • Must have coordination skills, reading and analytical skills, computer, and math skills, writing and communication skills.
  • Must have good human relations skills, basic and advanced leadership skills.
  • Must have the ability to operate a computer and utilize its various software and peripheral equipment.
  • Must have the ability to utilize a 10-key calculator, copy machine and various other office equipment.

JOB OVERVIEW:

  • Prepare journal entries, account reconciliations, and account analysis.
  • Process and balance intercompany transactions.
  • Prepare various financial reports and Financial Statements.
  • Analyzes and accounts for bad debt.
  • Processes monthly Sales Reports and Unbilled Revenue Reports
  • Assist in Budgets and Financial Forecast.
  • Ensures accuracy, maintains records and processes payments for Sales tax and Franchise taxes on a timely basis. Also works with the Department of Revenue to complete tax audits.
  • Ensures accuracy, maintains records and processed payments for Regulatory and Public Utility Taxes.
  • Submits information to Department of Energy.
  • Completes various spreadsheets and reconciliations.
  • Review and assist in Bank Reconciliations.
  • Review and interpret financial reporting requirements, rules, and regulations.
  • Provide reports and necessary information to Senior Management and External Auditors.
  • Maintains accounting records of the Cooperative in a secure and orderly manner.
  • Assist with processing storm documentation with FEMA and MEMA.
  • Assist with gathering information for audits.
  • Performs other related duties as required and assigned.
