POSITION SUMMARY: This position is responsible for broadband service installs, terminating, splicing, documenting, and testing fiber optic cables with an end goal of providing maximum operating efficiency for Singing River Electric and Singing River Connect.

POSITION REQUIREMENTS:

Two years' prior experience with fiber optics, preferred.

Eligible applicants must currently live within the service area of the assigned district office or be willing to relocate within a 45-minute commute from the assigned district office.

Minimum of 2+ years of experience in outside plant fiber splicing, customer premise equipment installation, network access equipment installation, and network trouble shooting, preferred.

Must display the knowledge and best practices for premise entry and electronic equipment installation.

Must possess an understanding of the technologies and standards as they apply to the installation of fiber optic networks as well as EIA/TIA 568A/B standards and color codes.

Must possess and demonstrate in-depth knowledge of installation, maintenance, and removal of fiber optic customer premise equipment.

Must have experience using ladders and operating bucket trucks.

Strong understating of OTDRs, Fusion splicing, fiber color codes, and testing tools.

Preferred Certifications:

  • CFOS/T - Certified Fiber Optic Specialist / Testing
  • ETA/FOT - Electronics Technician Association, Fiber Optics Technician
  • ETA/FOI - Electronics Technician Association, Fiber Optics Installer
  • INSTF - BICSI Installer 2, Optical Fiber

JOB OVERVIEW:

Programs subscriber premise equipment including but not limited to wireless networks, support app, MR SR Connect, data networks. Educates subscribers and potential subscribers on SR Connect products and services.

Conduct residential and commercial fiber installations including in home wiring, equipment setup, and basic customer training.

Test, activate, and troubleshoot equipment after installation.

Analyzes and troubleshoots basic technical problems or issues (e.g., no light level at ONT, no Wi-Fi signal, latency issues).

Works closely with Fiber Services Department to maintain an efficient and achievable home installation schedule.

Responds to installs, disconnects, reconnects, adds, changes, and troubleshoot Internet connections/lines in a timely and efficient manner.

Responsible for coordinating fiber activities with electric lineman and other aerial communications linemen and other departments as necessary

Will be subject to 24-hour call-out.
